Rakastettu DKR Wire Chair syntyi vuonna 1951, kun Charles ja Ray Eames – Buckminster Fullerin töiden innoittamina – asettivat tavoitteekseen luoda kevyen ja kestävän tuolin mahdollisimman vähäisellä materiaalimäärällä. Ensimmäisissä prototyypeissä kokeiltiin Fullerin hyödyntämää kolmiomaista metallilankarakennetta, mutta istuimen muodon kannalta parhaaksi ratkaisuksi osoittautui lopulta neliömäinen ristikko.
