• Selenium (Se) is an antioxidant that is abundant in nature, e.g. in meat, fish and dairy products. The recommended intake of selenium is 40-50 micrograms per day. 300 – 400 micrograms is considered the limit of safe intake.
• Selenium is a key trace element in the enzyme function of cells, especially as part of the glutathione peroxidase enzyme that protects against oxidative stress. Selenium thus helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Selenium is needed for the formation of the thyroid hormone that regulates metabolism, as well as for fertility, immunity and hair health
• Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. Selenium promotes normal sperm formation. Selenium promotes the normal functioning of the immune system.
• L-selenomethionine is an organic selenium compound that is efficiently absorbed.
