Terän valmistuksen yhteydessä pintaan on jätetty hiilikerros. Se kuluu käytössä pois.
Hiiliterästerä on helppo teroittaa normaalilla hiomakivellä ja sen saa terävämmäksi kuin ruostumattoman terän. Pidä terästä huolta: kuivaa terä heti käytön jälkeen ja levitä aika ajoin ohut kerros suolatonta öljyä sen pintaan.
Synteettisellä kahvalla varustettujen puukkojen kahvat ovat keskenään samanlaisia. Puukahvaisten puukkojen syykuviot taas ovat aina ainutlaatuiset - puukko siis ei näytä täysin samalta kuin tuotekuvassa.
