Description
Dock, Launch, Explore
Leave convoluted star charts, imprecise planetarium apps and computer-based fixations behind. With StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster or more accurate. Within minutes of mounting the telescope, you can navigate the sky with confidence. Simply place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app.
When the phone is aligned with the telescope's optics (a quick and easy operation), StarSense Explorer generates a list of the celestial bodies currently visible. Make your selection and arrows will appear on the screen to guide you as you move the telescope. When the target is ready to be viewed in the eyepiece, the reticle indicator will turn green. As you observe, listen to hundreds of audio descriptions and view detailed information on thousands of objects in the app's robust database.
High-quality altazimuth stock
The stable Tabletop Dobsonian base provides a solid foundation for the StarSense Explorer. The table stand is compact, light and easy to transport, making it ideal for traveling. The base's low profile makes it easier for some observers (especially children) to access the eyepiece. You can also place the tripod on a stable surface, such as a table or the hood of a car, and raise it to a comfortable viewing height. Consider adding an optional stand for even more viewing options.
Teflon bearings guarantee smooth movement in both height and azimuth. With the help of the integrated height brake system, you can adjust the tension of the height axis so that the movement is as smooth as possible even in small imbalance situations. When the celestial bodies seem to drift across the night sky, you can follow them easily.
The optical tube is connected to the stand using tube rings and a blue-eyed rod. The position of the tube in the rings is easy to adjust so that the focuser is in the most ergonomic viewing position. The stand has an eyepiece holder so that extra eyepieces are always within reach.
Amazing views with excellent optics
Thanks to the 130 mm (5.1 in) parabolic main mirror, this telescope collects enough light to bring out details in celestial bodies. You can expect crisp and clear views of Jupiter's four Galilean moons, its cloud bands and Great Red Spot, Saturn's rings, the trapezoid of the Orion nebula, and the beautiful Pleiades open star cluster. You'll be able to distinguish subtle details when looking at the moon and planets, as well as faint galaxies and nebulae.
This telescope features a 1.25" rack focuser that accommodates 1.25" eyepieces and dust covers for the front of the tube and focuser.
**Perfect for city or dark sky locations**
Even if you live in a light-polluted urban location, the Celestron StarSense Explorer 130mm Tabletop Dobsonian is advanced enough to easily pick up Jupiter, Saturn, open star clusters like the Pleiades, double stars like Alberio, the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy and many more of the best and brightest celestial bodies.
But if you can move the telescope to even a slightly darker place, more objects will come into view. With this 130mm Dobsonian and a relatively dark sky, hundreds of fascinating subjects are well within your reach.
The StarSense Explorer Tabletop Dobsonian is light and equipped with carrying handles, so it is easy to transport to the observation site.
Smartphone compatibility
Celestron's StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and newer, and most Android 7.1.2 or newer devices manufactured since 2016.
Patented StarSense sky detection technology
StarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. The LISA algorithm (Lost in Space Algorithm), the kind used by satellites in orbit to orient themselves correctly, helps the application match the constellations it observes above with its internal database.
While other astronomy apps claim to help you find objects, they rely solely on your phone's gyroscopes and accelerometers, which aren't as accurate as LISA technology. No other application can accurately tell when an object appears in the eyepiece.
Observe for longer with the PowerTank Glow 5000
Keep your phone charged all night while you explore with the StarSense Explorer by adding the PowerTank Glow 5000 (sold separately). Our team designed this 2-in-1 accessory with StarSense Explorer Dobs in mind. It has a red flashlight PLUS a USB power bank for charging mobile devices in the field. Two supplied straps attach the PowerTank Glow 5000 to the table's basic Dob handle, ideal for charging your smartphone while observing.
•Unleash the power of your smartphone to take you on a guided tour of the night sky - no telescope experience required.
•Patented, award-winning StarSense sky sensing technology uses your smartphone to analyze the constellations overhead and calculate the telescope's position in real time.
•The 130 mm parabolic head mirror helps you make the most of StarSense technology. Locate dim, deep-sky objects in seconds and see them in more detail than ever before.
•Sturdy table-level Dobsonian-style stand that makes it easy to follow the on-screen arrows to your desired destination. When the bull's eye turns green, it is ready to be viewed in the telescope eyepiece.
•StarSense Explorer Powered by SkySafari™ application automatically generates a list of currently visible destinations. View planets, brighter nebulae and galaxies, star clusters and binary stars from the city. Or take your telescope to darker skies to see even more.
•Includes 25mm and 10mm Kellner eyepieces, StarSense smartphone dock, StarPointer™ red dot finder, eyepiece holder and collimation cap.
