Erik Gustaf Ehrström (1791-1835) teki muutaman viikon vaellusretken Turusta Hämeenlinnan ympäristöön ja takaisin 1811. Matkakertomuksessaan hän ylistää maaseudun ja kesän kauneutta, kuvailee niin säätyläisten kuin talonpoikienkin elämää, juhlia ja arjen töitä. Myös suomen kieli ja sen murteet kiinnostavat nuorukaista, ja Ehrström tulikin myöhemmin tunnetuksi suomen kielen edistäjänä. Svenska litteratursällskapet i Finland julkaisee teoksen samanaikaisesti ruotsiksi.
