My City is one of the first Patchwork/Tetris legacy games. What does it mean?Patchwork/Tetris:In games like Patchwork, players place pieces of different shapes, sizes and kinds (like Tetris pieces) on their board. Such games are mostly about optimising the placement of the pieces played in order to score as many points as possible.Legacy games:Legacy games are up to date. They have taken the board game genre and given them a more narratively complex aspect. You mostly play through &apospaths&apos/&aposmissions&apos/&aposlevels&apos just once, revealing bit by bit, the next part of the story, and more game mechanics.That&aposs exactly what My City does. Here, there are 24 &aposepisodes&apos that the same 2-4 players play through over multiple times. Here you have to build a city out of Tetris shapes - a city that starts in the pre-industrial stages and into the innovative world of industrialisation. The choices - where and how you place your pieces - influence how your next game unfolds. Slowly but surely, the game becomes more and more complex, and in the different episodes there will constantly be new problems to deal with.If you don&apost want to play My City as a legacy game, you can simply flip the game tiles over (although you will need to be familiar with the mechanics introduced in the first four episodes).There&aposs a reason My City was nominated for Game of the Year 2020 - its mix of genres is decidedly innovative, giving the game a unique &aposfeel&apos not available elsewhere.
